This is a hybrid position where Video and Editorial Lead duties will be carried out each Saturday and Sunday. The Video Journalist portion of the role will make up the balance of the work week (3 days per week).
The Video and Editorial Lead will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the production of video and editorial content on all The Weather Network platforms each weekend. The Video and Editorial Lead will work closely with the TV/TV Apps Manager and Content Strategy Manager, to determine video and editorial priorities, especially around coverage of active weather. Specifically, the Video and Editorial Lead is required to stay informed of weather conditions and coordinate the production of the weather and news content accordingly. This includes leading and assigning work to the Media Producer, Content Creator, Writer, Video Journalist, Video Meteorologist, Optimization Specialists and Video Editors. This also includes ensuring the team updates content when necessary, and maintains credibility, accuracy and professionalism on all produced video and editorial content across all platforms.
Working closely with the Video Assignment Editor, the Video Journalist is responsible for pitching, planning, coordinating, producing and presenting video content for all The Weather Network platforms (including TV, web, App, and over the top streaming). You will be producing weather-related news and feature content that aligns with our Content Strategy, across all platforms. You will continuously innovate new ways of storytelling within an evolving media landscape.
Please note, this is a Contract role until February 2026 and requires you to work on Saturdays and Sundays as a Video and Editorial Lead which are in office shifts in Oakville location and as a Video Journalist on the remaining 3 days (Wed, Thu, Fri) which can be hybrid.

WHAT’S THE DAY TO DAY LIKE?

Video & Editorial Lead
  • Prepare daily editorial and video strategy for the team each weekend.
  • Plan, oversee and take responsibility for all aspects of content across all TWN platforms.
  • Lead and assign a weekend team that includes Media Producers, Content Creators, Writers, Video Journalists, Optimization Specialists, Video Meteorologists, and Editors.
  • Take an active role in managing personnel issues and share performance feedback with appropriate Leads and Managers.
  • Continuously monitor information sources (web, social, video feeds, etc.) and weather data to ensure the accurate, credible and timely presentation and production of news and weather content.
  • Additional projects/work during active weather may be required.
  • Conduct daily pre- and post-shift meetings with the team accordingly.
  • Participate in all necessary video and editorial meetings.
  • Oakville in office presence is required during weekend shifts
Video Journalist
  • Produce weather-related video content for linear Television, FAST channels, Web, App, Social and Sponsorships as needed.
  • Communicate with a centralized editorial team to coordinate video priorities.
  • Pitch to Video Assignment Editor, produce, shoot, and edit video reports.
  • Participate in regular daily, bi-weekly, and monthly team meetings and collaborate with the digital insights team to monitor analytics and consumption of produced content
  • Make changes to scripts and packaged content based on constructive feedback
  • Provide live coverage for breaking news or active weather when required.
  • Prolonged hours during active weather may be required
  • Operate and maintain video equipment, ensuring optimal audio, video, and technical quality under prevailing conditions.
  • Act as an expert on external media when requested.
  • Establish and expand list of available contacts for consultation when required.
  • Monitor emerging technologies and trends in multimedia production.
  • May be required to contribute to written content for digital platforms.
  • Snap photos and or edit images for thumbnail purposes
  • Collaborate with the digital insights team to monitor analytics and consumption of produced content.
  • Grow and engage with social audiences around relevant regional coverage.
  • Build a professional portfolio as a civic news and weather expert.
  • Attend public events to increase the presence/visibility of The Weather Network in the community and participate in company social media initiatives.
Roles, responsibilities and duties may evolve and change over time based on business needs.

WE ARE HOPING YOU HAVE:

  • University or college degree in Journalism, Communications or related discipline, or equivalent experience in media.
  • Minimum of (3) years’ experience of news/weather reporting including experience with producing reports, delivering stand-ups, and conducting on-air interviews.
  • Proven video editing skills using Adobe Suite.
  • Understanding of multiple digital platforms.
  • Knowledge of JW Player is an asset but not required.
  • Knowledge of weather, climate, the environment, and global geography.  While not required, a meteorological background is an asset.
  • Familiar with culture, history, and people of your respective region.
  • Ability to work a flexible work week — weekend and evening work involving all kinds of weather conditions.
  • Ability to bend, lift, and carry camera and related equipment on a day-to-day basis.
