OPPORTUNITY TYPE: Fixed-Term Contract (32–40 hours per week)

REPORTS TO: Social Media and Marketing Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Social Media Coordinator, Hot Docs Cinema is pivotal in elevating Hot Docs’ online presence and fostering deeper community engagement with a particular focus on Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema. You will develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy that boosts the awareness of the cinema’s programming, encourages audience engagement, and ultimately contributes to revenue generation. By leveraging owned social media channels, the Social Media Lead/Specialist will play a crucial role in connecting Hot Docs with existing and new audiences, ensuring the mission and values of the organization resonate through digital platforms.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Content Planning and Creation
- Develop a tailored social media marketing plan aligned with Hot Docs’ branding;
- Develop a social media content calendar to ensure timely and consistent postings;
- Create and publish high-quality, film-specific digital assets and posts tailored for individual social media platforms;
- Follow templates and guidelines to ensure consistent branding across platforms;
- Provide on-site, live coverage of key events for social media.
Audience Engagement
- Monitor and engage with audiences across social media platforms by providing customer services and fostering meaningful interactions;
- Implement protocols for handling negative feedback, crises, or unexpected challenges on social media platforms with guidance from Social Media & Marketing Manager;
- Conduct targeted outreach to brands, influencers, filmmakers, and community leaders to amplify marketing efforts.
Analytics and Reporting
- Offer recommendations by conducting regular social media audits;
- Track and report on KPIs as defined by Social Media & Marketing Manager.
Additional Responsibilities
- Adopt a flexible approach to workplace location and hours (including occasional evenings and weekends) contingent on the operating needs of the organization;
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with Hot Docs’ communities and stakeholders, including volunteers, unionized and contracted staff, filmmakers, media, and funders;
- Perform other duties and assist with special projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, digital media, or a related field;
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in content creation, social media management, or digital marketing;
- Proven experience in audience engagement and content planning;
- Proficiency in digital content creation tools, such as Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud, and social media management tools, including Hootsuite;
- Deep understanding of social media trends, best practices and platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, X, Facebook, and LinkedIn;
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines by using a project management platform like Asana;
- Experience in the film, arts, or cultural sector as an asset;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a talent for crafting engaging content;
- Capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment;
- Ability to build relationships with stakeholders and community leaders.
