Job Description

Imagine leading a dynamic Resource Conservation team while walking through forests, visiting local farm stands and overseeing wild marsh restoration projects. You could manage crucial ecological restoration and farmland enhancement projects in collaboration with farmers, schools, local conservation authorities, Indigenous partners, stakeholders and volunteers. You could also play a key role in implementing our Multi-Species-at-Risk Action Plan. You could help us to build and sustain a healthy, supportive and fun workplace culture. Your leadership and skill could help make a difference in people’s lives by providing opportunities to connect with and protect Canada’s natural, cultural and agricultural heritage.

Sound ideal? If so, the Resource Conservation Manager at Rouge National Urban Park could be a great fit for you. Rouge National Urban Park is home to amazing biodiversity, some of the last remaining working farms in the Greater Toronto Area, Carolinian ecosystems, amazing hiking opportunities, and human history dating back over 10,000 years, including some of Canada’s oldest known Indigenous sites. Parks Canada takes pride in creating a workplace culture that is healthy, supportive and fun, and we’re looking for people with a wide variety of experiences, interests and knowledge to join us.

The priorities for our Resource Conservation Manager position include:
• Leading a team of high functioning resource conservation staff
• Working collaboratively as part of an integrated park management team.
• Leading RNUP’s ambitious ecological restoration and farmland enhancement projects in collaboration with farmers, schools, local conservation authorities, Indigenous partners, stakeholders and volunteers
• Oversee the implementation of the Park’s Multi-Species-at-Risk Action Plan
• Providing leadership and oversight for the park’s foundational ecological monitoring program
• Impact assessment work for park real property and asset projects, resource conservation and restoration, and external projects
• Contaminated site assessment and remediation
• Blanding’s Turtle Head-Start Program, in collaboration with partners
• Implementation of a suite of contribution agreements in relation to species at risk recovery and ecological restoration/monitoring
• Strategic liaison with the agriculture community
• Invasive species management
• Supporting Realty in preparing for the transition to Parks Canada agricultural leases
• Support for Cultural Resource Management
• Reporting and briefing on resource conservation related initiatives
