Job Description

The Centre for Independent Living (CILT) is a non-profit, community-based resource organization run by people with disabilities, for people with disabilities. Our Core team offers independent living programs to consumers with disabilities. These programs include Independent Living Skills Training, Peer Support, Parenting with a Disability Network, Service Navigation, Volunteering and the GTA Disability Coalition.

We are seeking a new part-time Program Assistant to work collaboratively with Core team members and fill service and administrative gaps in key program areas.

Reporting to our Senior Manager, Independent Living Programs, you will:

1. Provide program and administrative support to Core Team:

  • Navigate calls, emails, and other program communications
  • Provide administrative support to the team as needed
  • Support outreach of Core programs and events
  • Provide supports to people with disabilities in self-advocating for service needs
  • Share booking of access supports for some Core team programs and events (e.g. ASL Interpreting, CART Captioning, Notetaking)
  • Contribute to the team’s planning and delivery of special/calendar events
  • Collect and maintain program records, statistics and evaluations

 2. Perform program tasks for Peer Support and Parenting with a Disability Network (PDN) Programs:

  • Facilitate program groups as needed when Peer and Parenting Coordinator is off, with orientation and direction from Coordinator
  • Provide targeted peer and parenting supports and referrals to consumers
  • Assist with outreaching the program to disability and wider communities
  • Serve on project committees relevant to the program as needed
  • Post news and resources on Peer and PDN Facebook groups
  • Attend relevant online events/meetings for the program as needed

You bring:

  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in a social services or disability studies area or equivalent years of work experience
  • At least 2 years of work experience delivering programs in a not-profit context
  • Familiarity with disability services and community resources
  • Strong administrative skills, with a high attention to detail
  • Proven social service skills, including with client support and service navigation
  • Ability to facilitate or co-facilitate program groups and events
  • Experience in outreach and promotion of programs and events
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in internal and external team settings
  • Good problem-solving skills, judgement and ability to manage risk
  • Facility with navigating social media platforms such as Facebook and X
  • Some experience working with people with disabilities
  • Appreciation for independent living principles in service delivery
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications including Word, Teams, and Excel
  • Lived experience of disability is a strong asset
