JOB DESCRIPTION
The Producer, Industry Programs, is responsible for overseeing key festival industry initiatives within the Hot Docs Industry Programs department, including Deal Maker, Close Ups, Works in Progress, and the Conference and additional smaller sessions such as Networking elements and delegation management. Working closely with the Director, fellow Industry Producers, the Manager, and the Coordinator, the Producer will curate market activities that foster professional development and support creators within the documentary community. Additionally, this role will lead the review and redesign process of the Forum currently on pause.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Development:
- Collaborate with the Industry Programs team to design and implement new Works in Progress and Deal Maker programs;
- Lead the review and redesign process of the Forum currently on pause.
Event Planning and Facilitation:
- Plan and execute conference sessions, panels, and roundtables to foster collaboration between decision-makers and filmmakers;
- Develop schedules, templates, and workflows to ensure seamless programming;
- Host and troubleshoot in-person and virtual Hot Docs Industry events as needed.
VIP Engagement:
- Invite decision-makers and industry VIPs to participate in festival events;
- Confirm attendance and manage participation logistics for invited guests.
Administrative Oversight:
- Process applications, verify information, track projects, and manage decision-maker payments;
- Conduct exit polls and oversee data management for industry programs.
Outreach and Business Development:
- Promote Hot Docs Industry programs through strategic collaborations with partners;
- Participate in business development activities, including attending markets, festivals, and events to solicit projects and foster program growth.
Research and Collaboration:
- Work with the Development department to identify research opportunities and manage delegations;
- Collaborate on identifying new areas to drive Hot Docs Industry activities.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform other duties and assist with special projects as assigned;
- Maintain flexibility in work hours and locations, including occasional evenings and weekends.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 5-10 years in the film industry, preferably in documentary filmmaking, film festival management, or related fields;
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Film Studies, Arts Administration, Business Administration) preferred;
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with Salesforce or similar databases is an asset;
- Familiarity with Canadian and international film landscapes, funding practices, and production regulations;
- Proven ability to manage complex projects and workflows efficiently;
- Exceptional interpersonal, presentation, and networking skills;
- Strong administrative abilities with a keen eye for detail;
- Effective decision-making and problem-solving skills under pressure;
- Expertise in evaluating application dossiers and assessing financial and alignment risks;
- Experience in facilitating interdepartmental meetings and leading critical paths;
- French language skills are a plus;
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed and to perform on-site duties in Toronto;
- A genuine enthusiasm for documentaries and Hot Docs’ mission.
