Starts: April 1st, 2025

Compensation: $40,194 annually ($22/hr)

Job Description:

Candidates MUST reside in the GTA and identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit. Reelworld is seeking a creative, competent individual who is passionate about media arts and the Canadian film industry to join our team as a Film Programmer Trainee. In this position, you will be working at all levels to ensure the success of our annual Reelworld Film Festival as well as our year round programs.

This position is based on a grant; the candidate MUST be First Nation, Métis or Inuit.

Film Programmer Trainee Duties:

• Collect and organize artistic information pertaining to festival, summit and year-round activities
• Assist in project coordination and year round programming
• Use FilmFreeway to organize programming meetings and files and use contacts within the media arts to search out new films
• Recommend films to the relevant Lead Programmer according to established judging protocol
• Become familiar with invited films (must screen all invited films), including the companies attached and the guests that will be attending the Festival
• Attend Festival Programming meetings when required and requested by the Senior Manager of Festival Programming
• Support all activities pertaining to Reelworld as required

REQUIREMENTS:

The candidate MUST reside in the GTA and identify as First Nation, Métis or Inuit.

• Good understanding of the local and global filmmaking community and industry
• Experience programming or curating for film festivals or arts organizations, or relative experience
• Must demonstrate the ability to take initiative and show good judgment
• Ability to navigate through social media platforms, conduct film research and develop relationships with filmmakers
