EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The National Aboriginal Head Start Council (NAHSC) represents Aboriginal Head Start Urban and
Northern Community programs from across Canada. The diverse perspectives and experiences of
NAHSC provides a national voice for Urban Indigenous children, parents, families, and communities
involved with the AHSUNC programs.
The Executive Director is a new position that is accountable to the National Aboriginal Head Start
Council (NAHSC) for the formation and development of their new National Indigenous Non-Profit
Organization, the National Aboriginal Head Start Association of Canada Inc. (NAHSAC).
The Executive Director is responsible for managing the operations of the NAHSAC.
We are looking for someone who:

Early Years non-profit organization.
• Inclusive: Forward thinking, inclusively minded approach to create policies that reflects culture,
multiple voices, and logistical requirements.
Responsibilities Include:
• Represent the organization as delegated by NAHSC nationally.
• Provide the NAHSC with technical knowledge, resources, and support to make informed decisions.
• Ensure the deliverables reflect the mission and philosophy of NAHSC.
• Ensure that the organization complies with all federal and provincial legislation.
• Coordinate the administrative systems and functions of the organization to ensure they effectively
support the growing needs of the organization.

• Create a work environment that is consistent with and reflect NAHSC mission and philosophy and
Code of Conduct.

Education, training, experience and skills needed:
• University degree in social sciences, public administration, business management, leadership or
equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A minimum three to five years of program, managerial, supervisory, and financial control
experience in the non-profit sector or Indigenous community.
• Knowledge of Indigenous values, urban First Nation/Metis/Inuit communities and organizations.
• A working knowledge of Aboriginal Head Start program context, principles, and guidelines.
• Experience, knowledge and/or education in Early Childhood Education.
• Excellent writing skills to include experience in proposal writing.
• Knowledge, practice and understanding of OCAP© Principles.
• Excellent presentation, public relations, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Including
experience in community engagement or consultative processes.
• Ability to work respectfully with others. Demonstrated teamwork, leadership, managerial and
administrative skills.
• Well-developed planning, organizing, negotiating and decision-making skills.
• Technical expertise with communications software, online meeting platforms, website
management and social media tools.
• Understanding of bookkeeping and bookkeeping tools and systems. Experience with latest office
productivity tools and task management systems.
• Must provide a current Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Persons Check.
• Ability to travel as required.

Working conditions:
• Full Time Permanent based on 35 hours per week.
• Reports to the National Aboriginal Head Start Council (NAHSC)
• Location is dependent on successful applicant location. Must be a resident of Canada.
• Works independently and remotely from home office and or associated with Regional or National
NAHSC partner organization.
• The salary range is $100,000 – $130,000. and is negotiable based on education and experience.
• Employment includes health benefits and home office use compensation.
• Schedule is somewhat flexible, requiring 75% of hours to be worked between 8AM and 4PM
Monday to Friday. Some weekend and evening hours may be required to support training and
event schedules.
