Job Description

The “Eshkiniigjik Naandwechigegamig – A Place for Healing Our Youth” – “Aabiish Gaa Binjibaaying – Where Did We Come From?” – ENAGB is an Indigenous Youth Agency that provides programming and services to support our youth and parents/caregivers and their children from birth to six years of age in North America to become responsible, participating citizens while leading our Indigenous community.

Under the direct supervision of the ENAGB EarlyONs Program Supervisor the ENAGB EarlyONs Program Relief Staff  will be responsible for the following:

  • Supporting the creation and/or researching indigenous curriculum and lesson plans that promote education on language, culture, land, community and nutrition.
  • Delivering programming that is suitable for children 0 – 6 year old and their families.
  • Delivering prenatal programming for families.
  • Ensuring a culturally safe, trauma-informed approach that is responsive to the diverse
  • communities of our Indigenous children and families.
  • Supporting the setup of the programming space.
  • Assisting with the marketing and promotion of the programs.
  • Interacting directly with the children and their caregivers, providing quality care.
  • Providing support to the caregivers of the children.
  • Supervising and coordinating activities.
  • Working as a team with co-workers and parents is essential to success.
  • Ability to develop and implement programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive,
  • emotional and social development of children.
  • Read each individual child’s files in his/her program and be knowledgeable about his/her medical
  • and developmental histories.
  • Interact with families to encourage their involvement in activities.
  • Plan, prepare, and implement daily activities (indoor/outdoor) as they relate to the curriculum.
  • Work with the team to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere.
  • Ensure confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Identifying policies and procedures of the program.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of the ENAGB Youth Program.
  • Other related duties as it relates to this position.

To ensure successful delivery of the program, we require the following qualifications:

  • Child & Youth Worker and/or relevant experience.
  • Over two years of experience working with parents/caregivers and their children from birth to six years of age.
  • Must reside within the GTA and be registered or be eligible to register with Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Employment and Training
  • Must have extensive knowledge of Indigenous (Inuit, Metis or First Nation) history/background.
  • Fluent in an indigenous language and knowledge of Indigenous cultures is an asset.
  • Able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Adequate energy and ability to meet the physical demands of the job.
  • A valid Standard First Aid and CPR.
  • A cleared Criminal Reference check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • A positive, fun-loving attitude.
  • The ability to work as a team and self-motivated.
  • Must be available to attend monthly staff retreats, training sessions and ongoing professional development activities.
