To Position: Digital Marketing Fellow – UNIONIZED

Reporting: Digital Strategy Lead

Compensation: Level 1 – $40,000 per annum + benefits

Term: 9 month position from hire date.

Grassriots is a full-service digital agency, supporting high-profile national and international non-profits, charities and social enterprises. At Grassriots, your work will have measurable social impact with global reach and influence.

Break Through: A Grassriots Fellowship Program

Piloted in 2021, this is a nine-month, unionized, paid internship. Qualified BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour) candidates will develop their talents in digital strategy while earning certifications in their areas of practice. These positions are focused on professional development to support fellows in breaking into the progressive sector. Grassriots commits to providing training, teaching, and support along with collaborative learning experiences for the fellow.

Your Work Makes an Impact

A Grassriots Digital Marketing Fellow will assist non-profits in their fundraising, advocacy, and marketing strategies and ensure their messages are shared with the right audiences and leave impact and influence. 

You will be reporting to the Digital Strategy Lead. Alongside the Grassriots team, the work you do will support clients to find new monthly donors, launching new brands, building awareness, helping target corporate misconduct, and strategizing digital lead generation campaigns and year-end fundraising campaigns.

Candidates should have experience and/or qualifications in these areas:

  • Source attribution, url-tracking, and marketing analytics
  • Expertise in Excel for data analysis, including data manipulation, pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and advanced formulas

The Role of a Digital Marketing Fellow

Three Pillars of Grassriots Strategy 

  • Achieve targets as established in customized strategies for each client 
  • Build relationships with clients to deepen and improve our work together 
  • Champion Grassriots as the industry expert, supporting the entire nonprofit sector 

Internal 

  • Shadow the development of digital strategies for clients and campaigns; review documents and contribute insights from other campaigns or market research
  • Do research and discovery; share your findings with the team to collaborate on recommendations for upcoming and future campaigns  
  • Contribute to brainstorming on strategy team’s digital strategies for all clients
  • Support Project Managers in the creation of workback schedules, understanding the project cycle and tasks to support each deliverable
  • Provide executional support for Marketing 
  • Ensure each campaign is meticulously built and tested, leading Grassriots team members and Clients through a detailed quality assurance process
  • Closely monitor social channels and their performance 
  • Complete courses and certifications relevant to the role; apply these learnings in project and client settings
  • Keep abreast of new trends & platforms in the digital space relevant to the non-profit sector
  • Attend networking opportunities and build relationships with clients and peers  
  • Track hours (own hours and project hours) 
  • Escalate issues to the Senior or Lead levels for support 
  • Participate as a member of the Grassriots team contributing to the overall success of Grassriots 

Client Facing: 

  • Support a small portfolio (1-2) of clients and provide positive client service experiences
  • Join team meetings with clients to understand their needs and give regular updates 
  • Build trust and sustainable relationships 
  • Help prepare for presentation of campaign strategies 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to invest in client’s best interest 
  • Flag issues or concerns with campaigns 
  • Help gather feedback from clients and refine practices
  • Participate in digital and social channels where the strategy is executed

  • Commitment to Social Justice and Anti-Racism
    • Personal Reflection: Reflect on a personal experience that shaped your understanding of race, privilege, or oppression. How has this awareness affected your actions and perspectives?
  • Community Involvement and Impact
    • Impact-Driven Mindset: Explain what motivates you to make a positive impact through your work in digital marketing. Provide an example of a project where you aimed to uplift a community or cause. Discuss how you measure the impact of your marketing efforts on the communities you serve.
  • Adaptability and Resilience
    • Adaptability: Provide an example of a time when you had to adapt to a significant change in a work or academic environment. How did you handle it?
    • Resilience: Share an experience where you faced a major setback or challenge in your work. How did you overcome it, and what did you learn?
