Job Description
Tyndale University is a Christian university that prepares leaders for work in the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors, ministry, and the global mission of the church. Tyndale offers fully-accredited programs in a wide range of disciplines at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Bachelor of Education Degree, within the Education Department of Tyndale University, prepares graduates to apply for an Ontario Teaching Certificate through the OCT; to demonstrate knowledge and skill in Ontario’s curricular areas in the Primary, Junior and Intermediate divisions; to link theory and practice; to engage the diversity of learners in today’s classrooms through differentiated instruction, universal design for learning, and awareness of culturally responsive and inclusive pedagogy; to cultivate engaging and equitable learning environments in which students’ intellectual, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual well-being are nurtured; and to deepen their understanding of their own beliefs, values, and knowledge and how those beliefs directly influence professional practice.
Candidates must have a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching with a strong pedagogical portfolio in one or more of the following pedagogical areas: language and literacy, math pedagogy, social studies/history/geography, French as a second language, or science.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching
- Teach 6 courses per year at the post-baccalaureate level in the Education Department.
- Develop research-based syllabi that reflect rigorous, current, practical and theoretical learning for teacher candidates entering the profession.
- Model and provide opportunities for teacher candidates to consider their own personal beliefs about students, learning, faith, and morals, and to reflect on how those beliefs shape us, and can positively impact learners of different abilities, socio-economic status, race, language, faith, culture, gender, and sexual orientation.
Research & Scholarship
- Engage in research, writing and publishing in the field of education.
Service
- Participate fully in the academic and community life of the university, including assigned committee work within the department and across the institution.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Terminal degree in the field of education
Experience
- 10+ years of experience teaching full-time in K-12 schools in Ontario
- Experience as a teacher-leader, instructional coach, or administrator in Ontario schools
- Experience designing and teaching courses for in-service and pre-service teachers
Skills and Abilities
- Curriculum design skills for developing syllabi that integrate theoretical and practical learning
- Creation of learning environments based on Universal Design for Learning
- Strong ability to encourage self-reflection among teacher candidates on values, beliefs, and teaching approaches
- Capacity to conduct and publish research in the field of education
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to evaluate educational practices and contribute to scholarly discourse
- Ability to mentor and support teacher candidates in developing professional competencies
- Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with colleagues, committees, and institutional teams

Physical and Mental Demands
- Ability to move around, and actively engage with students for extended periods during class
- Sitting for long periods while preparing lesson plans, grading, conducting research, and participating in meetings

- Adapting to continual changes in curriculum requirements, external stakeholder priorities, and educational technologies
Salary Range: $65,700 to $72,000
