Basic Function: The Apprenticeship Tradesperson Level 1 – Electrician is
responsible, under close supervision and guidance, for performing electrical related
tasks under the supervision of a 309A licensed Electrician while working towards a
309A trade license. This position will assist and provide support in implementing the
Strategic Plan.
Responsibilities:
• Performs supervised duties consisting of, but not restricted to the following:
• Operation, repairs, installations & preventative maintenance of all electrical
equipment.
• Assists with related maintenance duties.
• Assists in preparing material lists if requested for projects or work orders.
• Follow all branch instructions.
• Attends appropriate training courses as required.
• Advises other units regarding requested installations or repairs.
Qualifications:
• Must have completed high school, OSSD, or equivalent.
• Must become a registered Apprentice with the Ministry of Labour, Training
and Skills Development while working towards a 309A Journeyperson trade
license valid in the Province of Ontario.
• General Trades experience is an asset.
• Completion of pre-apprenticeship courses an asset.• Previous electricity courses are an asset.
• Must ensure all applicable licenses and certificates remain valid and in good
standing. Copies of licenses and certificates to be provided at time of hire
and upon renewal.
• Well-developed interpersonal skills, along with strong communications skills.
• Working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and
WHMIS legislation.
• Must possess an unrestricted Class G driver’s license valid in the Province of
Ontario along with a good driving record.
• Must be knowledgeable in the use of computerized programs and systems.
• Must be able to work weekends, shifts and holidays as scheduled.
• Must be able to deal with staff and public in a courteous and efficient
manner.
• Capable of meeting the physical requirements of the position.
• Must ensure all applicable licenses and certificates remain valid and in good
standing. Copies of licenses and certificates to be provided at time of hire
and upon renewal (e.g. for Trades positions).
Please note this is a non-permanent position, (working 40 hrs./week), with
no guarantee of employment upon completion of the apprenticeship.
However, if a position becomes available at the end of the apprenticeship,
the apprenticeship tradesperson is encouraged to apply.
