Job Description


General Function The Facilitator is accountable for the successful development and implementation of the Essential Skills programs and services in order for Miziwe Biik to achieve its mission of providing training and employment services to the Aboriginal peoples in the Greater Toronto Area so that they in turn attain a better quality of life.


  • Analyze and evaluate program and client statistical data within the program
  • Oversee and direct the program, partnerships, scheduling and curriculum development intake according to an established framework
  • Jointly manage day to day program decisions
  • Facilitate staff discussions to address program issues and develop plans for action and implementation; follow up
  • Collaboratively oversee client progress and remediation strategies; discipline as required
  • Review program progress and actual client numbers vs. target numbers
  • Provide feedback on written reports on the progress of the program
  • Design a variety of Essential Skills based course lesson plans, instructional materials, exercises and activities and evaluation processes for group based and one-on-one instruction
  • Facilitate classroom-based training programs, delivering content to meet program learning objectives
  • Assist program participants in increasing their knowledge in their chosen career and helping them focus on employer/job essential skills requirements
  • Monitor and support the achievement of student and program goals; Identifies and addresses learner/ knowledge gaps, adjusting lessons and approach as required; coaches and counsels regarding barriers to learning
  • Conduct pre-and post-program Essential Skill assessment for all programs; record results, and debrief clients according to established framework
  • Conduct screening interviews with potential clients about readiness and commitment to program participation
  • Communicate with clients and refer to Employment Advisors for next steps if not accepted into a program
  • Complete other operational related duties as they arise


  • Diploma or Degree in Education, Business or Arts
  • Minimum 2 years experience in curriculum development and adult education
  • Essential Skills practitioner certificate and/or knowledge, experience and certification required for developing Essential Skills curriculum
  • Career practitioner certification with 3 years’ experience in Employment & Training: qualified to administer and interpret a variety of career/learning assessment tools
  • Life Skills Coaching diploma
  • Experience with Aboriginal clients and organizations and knowledge of the Aboriginal community
  • Strong coaching and facilitation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Zoom, and G-Suite, WebEx, Teams and others
  • Project management experience; demonstrated ability to oversee projects in partnership with other organizations, government agencies or industry
  • Solid counselling skills; strong ability to develop prevention and intervention strategies to meet student needs
  • Effective communication: listen speak, write and effectively; prepare and deliver clear presentations
  • Ability to establish meaningful working relationships with clients and employers
  • First Nations, Métis or Inuit background


  • Excellent multi-tasking, organizational and time management skills applied to curriculum development, classroom delivery and case management
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Creativity to develop relevant and engaging lesson plans and priorities
  • Ability to work independently and make a strong contribution to a team
  • Reliability and punctuality
  • Client-service orientation
