Opportunity: Short Term Leave Cover for the Director, Learning and Impact
Time Frame: November 2024 to June 2025

ABOUT THE EQUALITY FUND
The Equality Fund is transforming the way that resources—and power—flow into the hands of women, girls and gender expansive people worldwide. Designed by feminists for feminists, it is a model for sustainably resourcing feminist movements everywhere, through global grantmaking, gender-lens investing, policy advocacy, and feminist philanthropy. Launched in 2019, the Equality Fund has committed $86 million to date which flows to more than 800 organizations working across 100 countries.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Vice President, Strategy, Innovation, and Impact, the Director, Learning and Impact is a key role inside of the Equality Fund that works to design, implement, and continuously refine the Equality Fund’s approach to and system for assessing and communicating organization-wide impact, and curating associated learning opportunities. This is a role that works across key units of the Equality Fund and with learning and impact colleagues across the organization.
SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide leadership and oversight to the Equality Fund’s learning and impact team, led by the Manager, Learning and Impact.
- Lead and coordinate impact reporting across the organization.
- Design and launch a horizontal community of practice on learning and impact for colleagues across the organization.
- Work with the Vice President, Strategy, Innovation, and Impact to design a five-year plan for learning and impact at the Equality Fund, including refreshing our organization-wide Learning and Impact Strategy.
- Incorporate feminist expertise and approaches into all elements of the Equality Fund’s learning and impact practices; advise, support, and coach colleagues and teams in implementing feminist monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) methods in service of the Equality Fund’s MEL strategy.
- Lead evaluation activities focused on the Equality Fund undertaken by key partners and donors (such as Global Affairs Canada).
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
- At least ten years of work experience in monitoring, evaluation, and learning
- Experience working in social justice, human rights, grantmaking, or international development settings.
- Strong understanding of feminist issues, advocacy, movement building challenges, and/or funding environment facing women’s rights organizations in the global South an asset.
- Experience mentoring, coaching, and/or leading individuals and teams.
- Experience with feminist MEL approaches and methods for data collection and analysis.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; second language verbal and written communication (such as French, Spanish or Arabic) an asset.
- Ability to work effectively within a diverse team and with communities from politically and culturally diverse backgrounds.
- Commitment to the work and values of the Equality Fund, which include Anti-Racism, Anti-Oppression, and Intersectionality; Feminist Leadership; Accountability; and Radical Love.
REQUIREMENTS
- Willing and able to work remotely on mostly computer-based work
- Able to work up to 3 to 4 days per week, between November 2024 and June 2025
- Available to work primarily during Equality Fund’s core business hours of 9am-5pm Eastern Time, Monday-Friday.
BUDGET
This part-time contract is available to begin no later than 1 November 2024 through to June 2025 for a total value of up to CAD $70,000 + HST, billed monthly. The consultant is required to be available to work (remotely) up to three to four days per week, with flexibility on the choice of days and hours, though there is an expectation of some availability during Equality Fund’s core business hours of 9am-5pm Eastern Time, Monday-Friday.
Please provide a cover letter and resume that demonstrates your experience and qualifications. Included in the cover letter should be the consultant’s daily rate, designated in Canadian currency.
SELECTION PROCESS
- Equality Fund’s People, Equity, and Culture team will work with the hiring manager to do an initial screening of applicants. Please make sure to detail your experience and daily rate (CAD $) in your resume/cover letter to ensure the committee has the information they need to assess your qualifications for the role. This process takes about 1-2 weeks from the application deadline.
- When there are many candidates who pass the initial screening, the People, Equity, and Culture team may conduct 15-30 minute phone screening calls.
- The hiring committee will conduct first round interviews with selected candidates. Candidates will be sent the interview questions 48 hours in advance of their scheduled interview. Candidates are welcome, but not expected or required, to send any questions they have for the hiring committee in advance of the interview. These interviews usually occur 1-3 weeks after the application deadline.
- The hiring committee may conduct a second round of interviews, which may include an assignment.
- The People, Equity, and Culture team will conduct reference checks for the candidate to whom they intend to extend an offer. This process usually takes about 1 week.
- The People, Equity, and Culture team will initiate a background check. This is intended to safeguard Equality Fund employees, grantees, and the organization. We recognize that some communities experience systemic over-policing. As such, only findings related to harassment, exploitation, coercion, sexual exploitation, fraud, abuse, or other findings specifically relevant to the duties of the role will be considered in relation to one’s eligibility for employment.
- The People, Equity, and Culture team will send the selected candidate a consultant contract, which the candidate will have time to review and return.
