Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster, and easier. Our Engineering & Asset Management, Stations & Facilities Office is looking for a CO-OP Student to assist with the planning, design, construction, maintenance and monitoring of GO Transit infrastructure.  The CO-OP Students will work with internal stakeholders to provide analytical support in the completion of required tasks and deliverables.

What will I be doing?

  • Will support the development and review of Architecture & Urban Design Standards and requirements
  • Will utilize Various graphics and/or CAD software including Adobe Creative Suite, Revit, AutoCAD
  • Develop presentations
  • Provides a variety of analytical and /or technical services to support the business which may include preparing reports, memos, documents; sorting/collating/filing documents
  • Develops spreadsheets, forms, and databases to input, track, store and retrieve data
  • Maintains and updates electronic and hardcopy filing systems and provides record management services
  • Recommends improvements to existing processes and procedures to achieve greater efficiency
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to collect data, respond to queries and exchange information
  • Provides assistance and support to staff in a variety of areas, including gathering, inputting, organizing, and interpreting data for reports/presentations/meetings/projects
  • Prepares agendas, coordinate, attend, and take minutes for daily technical/operational meetings
  • Assist in the production and formatting of operational documentation (e.g., public-facing and internal timetables)
  • Certain travel and/or field work may occasionally be required

What skills & qualifications do I need?

  • Must be attending school full-time and returning to an academic institution
  • Must be at least 15 years of age before starting employment
  • Enrolled in an architectural program at a post-secondary institution
  • Previous experience working within a business environment is preferred
  • Strong written, oral communication and interpersonal skills are required
  • Competence in software such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Revit, AutoCAD
  • Minimum 2 years University/College should be completed
  • Interest in rail transportation and transit planning/design and construction is a strong asset
  • Experience working in an architectural or engineering firm is preferred
  • A willingness to learn while being exposed to all aspects of transit infrastructure planning, design construction, and asset management.
