Boilermakers – Local 128, Aecon and Ontario Power Generation have partnered to develop a Boilermaker Helper Program to support work on the Darlington Refurbishment Project with Ontario Power Generation.

About the Program

The Helper program is being developed for individuals without Boilermaker qualifications who are interested performing short term, physically demanding work on a major nuclear project at the Darlington site. This is an opportunity to work directly on OPG’s site, in the vault, at a competitive rate while gaining real exposure to working in the field. This labour-intensive work will include exposure to permissibly high levels of radiation. All radiological workers receive extensive training and are only subject to exposures within Federal guidelines and policies.

Selected candidates will be added to a list for dispatch to a temporary work opportunity with Aecon, who is performing critical work on the Darlington Refurbishment Project. Boilermaker Helpers will be required to complete all paid orientations, training and evaluations deemed necessary by Aecon. When a Helper is no longer required as per schedule, demand, or due to reaching their individual permissible radiological exposure limit, they will receive a layoff without the expectation of any additional employment.

Temporary Work placement expected to begin July 2022, for a 4 month period.
