Communications Assistant

Part-Time Contract Position to March 31, 2020

Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Employment and Training is seeking a Communications Assistant to work with the Marketing and Communications Officer, providing support in website management and assisting with other marketing duties.


  • Support implementation of communications projects under digital strategy for website and social media
  • Draft and edit materials and communications copy
  • Develop, implement, and manage incoming and outgoing data for job portal
  • Maintain website databases
  • Assist with monitoring and updates of website
  • Assist in web content and social media creation for job portal
  • Track and relay updates for department information
  • Assist with developing content for website, e-newsletter and other digital platforms
  • Assist department staff to plan, coordinate, and implement various communication projects


  • Current post-secondary student or graduate from Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Web Design/ Development or similar field programs
  • 1-2 years of experience working with WordPress CMS
  • 1-2 years of experience in digital content
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop)
  • Familiarity with various social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn
  • Excellent grammar, editing and proofing skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Organized multi-tasker who excels at time management and organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Demonstrated creative thinking and enthusiasm
  • Demonstrated initiative to suggest improvements and encourage positive results
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Availability to work occasionally on evenings and possibly weekends
